Hook ’em horns…

On Saturday I spent a few hours (perhaps a few too many) at a South Austin bar (sports, bleh!) to watch the much-hyped Texas vs. OU football match-up. We have some rowdy folks in these parts, and they LOVE their football. The following day, I slowly moved toward Fredericksburg where Gadora toured Inn at Bella Vista. Somehow we got to talking about deer. And shooting them. Having once lived just outside of town, I remember ruminants were indeed plentiful in those parts, as the land was alive with brush.

I helped dress a deer once, in fact, we ate that kill. But no deer ever inconvenienced me by stepping in front of my vehicle, so I’ve got no beef with them. I detest trophy kills. Once I’d paused on an Outdoor channel where they showed a handsome buck, then a guy in the brush who saw that deer and said, “My God he’s beautiful,” then unloaded a clip in his side. Really dude? So my fascination with the likeness of their regal heads on proud display baffles me. I’d much rather see a screaming TX fan, or that one Sooner kid with the wagon on his head, or a camouflaged trophy hunter silenced with his head on a plaque. But I digress. I do, however, like alternatives… and fell in love with this Moose head at Z Gallerie.
