Wish list…

Thanks in advance for allowing Gadora to indulge in a lofty thought… I’m in my new space, outfitting my home in a very glamour-goes-green aesthetic! Mid-century moves toward Hollywood Glam, with a clean conscious and sense of humor. We’ll start with the bed I’ve been dreaming of…

Douglas fir Gustavian headboard at VivaTerra

REPURPOSE: The reclaimed Douglas fir Gustavian bed (A Queen, natch!) from VivaTerra rescues wood from razed buildings, then is hand-planed and waxed to a fine finish. Gadora would so-ho-ho dive in. That it’s made in the USA is an added bonus.

While mirrored furniture is not a new thing, my boudoir wants something shimmery and reflective and 40’s inspired.

Mid-Century Modern in Tulsa.

Recently Gadora traveled to Tulsa to see about her Mom. I like Tulsa (and love my Mama!). T-town is quiet, though Frank Lloyd Wright left an indelible mark with his “Westhope” home. Moments after touch down my Mama beamed, “we’ve got something to show you,” and whisked Gadora off to Mod50s Modern, a busy warehouse shop on East 15th.

Scouting Austin…

Gadora and the girls went out Saturday with a mission. Seek out Austin’s most touted furniture stores for an exploratory Gadora meet-and-greet. First stop, Threshold ~ furniture and design studio. More great photos on their blog of witty living rooms layered in rich texture, I could have stayed at Threshold for hours.

An airy loft space with interesting vignettes, Threshold pairs Lawson-Fenning seating (see Sandra below) with rugged, wheeled coffee tables atop O’Hare and D’Jafer rugs.

SOLD – modern arc floor lamp

On a recent shopping trip to Arlington’s Thrift City, Laura and Gadora spotted this loverly arc lamp. Its plug had been chopped off and its copper wires were splayed at the end. The stand was wobbly in its marble base. But Gadora loved it.

Gadora and her Pops worked a few hours on making this lamp shine. Tediously twisting it apart to pull the chord, then carefully rewiring it with brand new parts, tightening it at the base, and wiping it clean of grime and prints.

Gadora posted it on Craigslist. Hoping it would sell, but maybe not all that bad.

George Kovacs-inspired Arc Floor Lamp with marble base. This adjustable-height floor lamp provides a glowing down-light. Finished in chrome, the body of the lamp has an adjustable arc shape. The white marble base complements the glass-like dome shade. Completely rewired. Absolutely in perfect shape.
