mapping out Austin

When Gadora first arrived in ATX, I came equipped with a self-marked map dotted with vintage furniture stores, consignment spots, and fab furnishing locales I’d only heard of. Each week I get out the map, and head into this increasingly more rewarding city to see what it holds for me on this day…

Paisley Home, located off North Lamar-but moving, is a HUGE warehouse space filled with dark wood tables, dark carved chairs, interesting shelving units, the occasional shelled trinket box, and enough space to do cartwheels in between it all. Well-priced, it offered more in the way of furniture, than display ideas.

El Paso Imports, off Burnet Road, was wildly full from a gargantuan (and quite colorful) shipment received that morning. Gadora wriggled around the store soaking it all in, taking pause at this particular dresser… OooOOoooooo!

Next stop, the East Side. Saturday Sandra pointed out Big Red Sun on our way to the Pachanga! Latino music festival, and I made a beeline back to this landscape oasis. Nestled under a canopy of trees, they’ve paired rock walks, stone paths, and whimsy with indigenous plants to create a true space for the senses…

Inside, the converted house teemed with bird cages (alive and noisy with tiny, colorful creatures), interesting trinkets, books worth coveting and such…all alone, I snapped some displays.

Gadora’s favorite thing? This well-appointed planted sculpture. A larger table-top planter houses the vulnerable globe, succulents sitting in pockets of colorful rocks spill over, while a cypress knee provides vertical dimension. Its 360º of  WOW and utterly clever. WDITOT ?

  1. That globe planter is AMAZING. I want it so much. Also did you notice the BLUE shelves in the picture above? (My table has asked to be green and stay in Alabama. Oh well.) Also I am delighted to hear that Austin is increasingly rewarding!
